Cardinals coach Arians wins PFWA's Horrigan Award

(AP) -- Arizona's Bruce Arians, the 2014 NFL Coach of the Year, has won the Jack Horrigan Award from the Professional Football Writers of America for his cooperation with the media.

Arians is the first member of the Cardinals to receive the honor. He was the league's top coach in 2012, when he served on an interim basis while Colts head coach Chuck Pagano battled leukemia. Arians joined the Cardinals the next season. In 2014, despite a slew of injuries, he led them to an 11-5 record and an NFC wild-card berth.

Arians is lauded by beat writers who cover the Cardinals, as well as by the national media. Says Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic: "He's honest, funny and opinionated. He recognizes, and more importantly, respects that reporters have a job to do, too. He's not going to divulge state secrets, but he does far more than required when it comes to providing thoughtful answers and sharing his knowledge and experiences."
